HEALTH CARE DECISSION MAKING
Shared decision making is one of the significant and effective concepts in order to make
appropriate care plans for patients (Gustin, 2019) .In this paper Iwill share one of my clinical
experiences where patient involvement played an important role in making treatment plan.
Health care providers are responsible for providing safe and quality health care services. Making
effective care plan is one of the important steps for patient recovery. In this context, shared
decision making is aunique concept. According to one of my experiences, while Iwas appointed
for educating apatient about asthma care, while Isuggested the patient to avoid any types of
allergens such as smoke, dust. The patient shared that itis difficult for him to avoid dust because
of his work place environment. Hence, after considering the patient concern Irecommended the
patient to use mask as well as to carry inhaler throughout his working hour. In this context, it
can be stated that patient preference gave me some significant information in order to make
appropriate or effective care plan for him.
As mentioned in the previous section, shared decision making is one of the significant
way to improve patient health outcome. In this context, patient involvement through considering
patient ’svalues and preferences have asignificant role. Every individual patient have individual
issues or preferences, hence for providing patient-centered quality care, making care plan
according to the requirement of the patient may have aseparate positive effect in care services.
First of all the considering patient ’spreference and values have significant impact on improving
quality of nursing intervention (Baggott et al., 2020) .In this specific care situation, the nurse get
benefited to make apositive health response that helped in preventing health deterioration due to
allergens. Then second impact of this practice is efficacy of the care plan (Melnyk et al., 2021) .
The patient felt comfortable as well as confident over the care provider ’sdecision, and followed

the direction for abetter health outcome. This care plan helped the patient in avoiding asthma
attacks as well as reduce the chance of readmission to the hospital.
In this case situation, the patient decision aid has been used to make the treatment plan
for the patient. This model played an important role as itassisted the patient and nurse to work
together and make health as well as social decision for better health outcome. Use of this tool
was an important step as itencouraged the patient to take part in making decision for his care
plan (Decisionaid.ohri.ca, 2022) .As acare provider this tool may help in my future professional
practice and development through setting effective goals for patient care.
After going through this discussion itcan be concluded that, involving patients and taking
their concerns are beneficial in order to provide safe and high-quality health care services.
