Executive summary
The designated company Northampton Taxis is facing challenges due to inadequate
presence in the competitive market and technology. In order to gain competitive
advantages and to gain measurable market revenue, The company is planning to
implement a web application. With this web application, the company would be able
to retain and grab more customers from the market and also the customers will be
able to make the taxi booking process easier. The detail project plan to be followed
to design and execute the website are elaborated in this report.

Introduction
The success of a business is dependent on performance of the team and the
operational practices. In order to secure a competitive position, it is important to
establish a relationship with the customers. Design and implementation of web
application and mobile app are the most appreciated approaches from the business
perspectives. The nominated company, Northampton Taxis is a family-owned travel
company that offers taxi services, airport run services and courier services to the
customers. the company is based on Northampton England. Currently the company
has print media like news paper advertisement to reach new customers. In the
existing efficient booking system, the customers can book taxis using fax, email and
phone calls. However, due to lack of technical support, the company is facing some
major challenges. In other words, for the traditional operation management system,
the company is losing their customers badly. The company management has
devised to improve their services by investing a lot in for incorporating advanced
technologies. The company has decided to improve their online presence using
social media and websites for reaching more customers.
Due to increased penetration of both internet and smartphones, people are
becoming comfortable using the internet services for booking their services. In order
to reduce operational cost and time of Northampton Taxis, design and execution of
the website is vital. The web application will help the staffs to reduce the work
pressure and process the activities faster than expectation. The customers will be
able to access the website anytime, from anywhere and book the taxis. The website
will play the role of an advertising platform in different geographical boundary. The
report is supported with a detail aims and objectives, project planning, resource
allocation, milestone addition, proper monitoring and control, cost and task variance.
At the end of the report, a critical reflection or evaluation is also performed.
Aims
The aim of the Northampton Taxis company is to increase their online
presence using web application to reach to more customers. It is expected that, the
website will assist the company to expand their business in the competitive market.
The users can access the webpages using internet services. The website will give
easy navigation and streamline the entire process. The dynamic website will also be
able to receive data from various users and display different information. The other

aim of the company is to build trustworthy relationship with customers by creating
consistency. The approach of customer service will also be improved a lot with this
practice.
Objectives
Objectives identify the plan, that are expected to be achieved by the end of
the project. Objectives are integrated combination of deliverables and assets. For
Northampton Taxis the objectives are as follows-
ï‚· To create a fully functional and responsive website using HTML and
CSS, for improving the taxi booking process
 To design and execute the website within £13,000 and 58 working
days
ï‚· To connect the website with database for improved security
Planning
Project setting
Northampton Taxis is facing major operational challenges due to its
backdated operation management system. In order to gain economic profit and
secure a position in the competitive market, it is important to invest in advanced
technologies. The company has decided to reach out probable customers through
website design and managing new technologies.
The project plan developed for the company is comprises of six effective
stages in terms of requirement analysis, prototyping, development, testing and
project closure. These stages are linked to each other. In order to complete the
project plan, experienced resources are identified and allocated to each activity. The
resources need to perform their assigned responsibilities successfully. The activities
to be performed in the project cycle are elaborated in the below section-
Requirement gathering – The website design project plan for the
Northampton Taxis initiates with requirement gathering. Before initiating the project
activities, the assigned project manager should first gather necessary requirements.
The project requirements should be identified after analyzing client ’s expectations
and requirements. After that, the target audiences are needed to be analyzed.

Followed by server access and identifying required resources, the requirements
should be specified.
Prototyping -Prototyping is the second stage of project cycle. In this stage,
the assigned project team, creates the prototype supported by mockup design, site-
mapping and wireframing. After reviewing the prototype, necessary amendments are
also done in this stage. After that, the prototype will be tested properly for gaining
ultimate approval.
Development -After requirement analysis, prototyping the development stage
is performed by the project manager and assigned team. The project team is
responsible to create the coding templates. The prototype is approved in this stage.
Using CSS and HTML the webpages will be designed and formatted. After that,
interactive components are developed for the website. In order to grab more
numbers of customer, it is important to make the website looking attractive. The
website should be user-friendly and must have easy navigation. After developing
interactive components, proper contents should be added to the website. Then the
site links are needed to be tested properly. After complete design of the website, the
functionalities of thew website must be tested accurately. The operational ability,
functionalities all are needed to be checked in this stage.
Testing -Testing is the nest stage to prototype development. Testing is the
most vital stage of project management life cycle. In this stage, the project manager
and tester conduct testing activities through error testing, user group testing,
amendments arising from the testing, gaining approval from the testing. Before final
launch of the system, ithas to be tested accurately.
Training- Northampton Taxis company currently uses traditional operation
management system. Due to this reason the company is facing major issues with
customer management and customer retention. The company management has
decided to increase and improve their website presence through web application
development and social media appearance. The working staffs of the organization
are not aware of the new website. Therefore, they must gain proper training so that
they can operate the system successfully. In order to operate the system
successfully, the training program has become very essential. For this project, both
technical and non-technical training will be performed. Both the clients and staffs

need to have adequate skill to operate the system successfully. A trainer will be
outsourced to operate the system.
Project closure -Project closure is the final stage to be performed by the
project manager and team. In this stage, the completely designed website will be
connected to the database. After that the website will be launched through different
promotional activities. The project closed with final review and closure.

Resource allocation
In this stage, the resources will be assigned to each activity. The resource
allocation is performed followed by the below mentioned activity-

The resource assigned to this activity has 100% capacity unit. For the elicit
client needs activity the project manager will perform 2 days activities. The website
developer resource is over allocated in this project. The website developer ’s
workload must be distributed or reduced.

In order to deal with the over allocated resource that is the website developer, the capacity
of the website developer should be increased by 300% from 100%. As soon as the

resource capacity will be increased the overallocation problem will be resolved. The

Milestone details
The project is initiated in 7th February, 2022 and expected to be completed
within 58 working days. The project team will work for 8 hours/day from Monday to
Friday. The team members will get fixed holidays on Saturday and Sunday. The
working time will not require to be changed. The project will be completed by Wed
27/04/2022. The detail project plan with milestones is presented in the below
section-

Monitoring and control
Completed and partially entered tasks /missing deadline date
The project was initiated on 7th February, 2022 and till date, but till date not all
the phases but the first four phases have been accomplished. Only the testing and
closure phases are about to complete. The first four phases are already completed
successfully where there is no partially entered tasks. None of the project activity
deadlines are missed. Setting a current date as 15 th April, 2022 the project status is
updated.
Resource and task notes
The project manager is responsible to monitor and control the project
progress, The developer is responsible to develop the website mockup. The
analyst ’s duty is to analyse the CSS and HTML coding templates. The backend

developer and front-end developer are responsible to connect the database with the
website and customize the website navigation. The tester will perform website
testing. A trainer will be appo8inted who will train the clients and staffs. The

From the project details it can be reflected that, the aims and objectives are
met as per the expectation of the clients and company ’s owners. The system will
give easy navigation and user-friendly interface so that clients can easily manage
and operate the website whenever needed.
