Overview of reflection in professional setting:
A reflective practice stated in the simple terms is about reflecting or thinking about what
an individual does. It is connected closely to the concepts of learning from the personal
experiences in which an individual thinks about what they did and what happened along with
deciding what they can do differently in the next time (Jackson, 2017) .Thinking about what has
happened is apart of apractice among human being. Although, there is adifference between
reflective practice and casual thinking as reflective practice needs a conscious effort to think
about the events that has occurred and develop understandings about them (Cottrell, 2017) .After
the individual gets into the habit of using reflective practice within the daily life, it will become
an effective tool both in the professional and personal life.
Bennett-Levy (2019) states that self- reflection is all about looking into the mirror and
expressing what an individual does. It is aparticular way in which the individuals can evaluate
themselves, the ways of their working and analysing things. It is important as it helps to develop
the skills and evaluate its effectiveness, rather than informally carrying on doing the things as it
always has been done. In addition to this, it is also about questioning, in apositive manner about
what we do or why we do it and then deciding whether it is better and effective way of
performing aparticular activity for the future or not (Jackson & Wilton 2017) .
Self- reflection helps us to examine our thoughts on adaily basis which creates an inner
discourse that impacts on how we view and interact with the others. This process might take time
and effort but it is a critical step for both growth and development as an individual and an
employee. In aprofessional context, self- reflection helps to decrease negative thoughts which
might lead to the motivation towards work (Cottrell, 2017) .In addition to this, it enhances the
understanding of ourselves along with our co- workers so that we can mutually and cooperatively
work as ateam to achieve the objectives and goals of our company. It also puts emphasis on our
strengths which we can use to improve our weaknesses that can lead to an effective career
growth (Ogbonnaya, Tillman & Gonzalez 2018) .It even defines the professional growth along
with being strategic with the opportunities that we have so that we can use effectively for the
growth process (Walther, Miller & Sochacka 2017) .Self- reflection helps in developing a
creative thinking skill which is one of the major aspects that are required among candidates
within the organisation (Korthagen, 2017) .
Evaluation of teamwork in project:
According to Sanyal & Hisam (2018) teamwork is an essential component both within
the personal and professional life as it helps to understand and gain knowledge about individuals
along with the effective skills that are present in group members. By working in the team, Ihave
gained the knowledge of effective communication and social skills which includes effective
speaking and active listening. While working in ateam, we have to listen to each other so that we
can perform our individual roles better. Apart from communication skills, Ihave also learned
about the importance of self- confidence as teamwork teaches us that our opinions are valued and
respected. In an effective team, every group member must value each other ’sopinions and ideas
and consider it effectively. However, there are certain times when the idea or opinion is not
related to the topic, then we must not make fun of the individual, rather we must make them
understand of why their opinion or idea is not included. When Iwas working in the team, Igave
my valuable ideas and opinions during the group project, which was considered by my team
members and it effectively developed self- confidence within me which also encouraged me to
further participate in group activities.
Another aspect that Ihave learnt from teamwork is the possibility to dramatically reduce
the effects of bullying. This is because, whenever an individual knows that they are being valued
and respected by the other people within the group, then they will be able to upsurge above the
hurtful comments or acts of the bully. This process even includes the involvement of other group
members so that they can support the individual from bullying by the others. Ihave always been
part of ateam that has genuinely cared about its group members which gives astrong support
system and encourages us to support each other in adifficult situation. Also, the self-confidence
that Ihave gained from my team activities has empowered me to stand up for the victims of
bullying and help them overcome these issues. As aprofessional, every industry or workplace
requires their employees to work in agroup within the organisational setting. This is the reason
that organisations recruit people who demonstrates an ability to work as a part of the team
(McDaniel & Salas 2018) .Therefore, Iconsider teamwork as one of the major aspects of a
workplace along with an effective quality which is required within an individual to get into a
well- known and reputed company. Hence, the knowledge of teamwork has provided me in
developing my professional role to work as an effective group member in the team, who can help
and contribute the team to reach its objectives.
Overview of development of professional identity:
By successfully completing my project, Ihave got the idea and understanding of several
skills which Ibelieve will help me in developing my professional identity that will enhance my
personal abilities to work as an effective employee in an organization of my choice. The
professional world requires a set of skills and knowledge which must be present within an
employee to effectively get selected within the company. Some of the professional skills that I
have developed during the project includes analytical thinking and innovation which is important
in building and assessing arguments. While doing the project, we had to research about different
aspects and elements related to the topic. Therefore, Iwas able to apply analytical thinking and
innovativeness during research which gave me athorough understanding of the ideas as well as
developing these skills. Ihave also developed my ability to use reason and logic in order to
create resourceful solutions which is required in professional world. Apart from this, Ihave even
developed learning strategies which will help me in the road to promotion or considering acareer
change. Nowadays, the employers always look for the individuals who have a priority for
professional growth and there are several ways in which Ican achieve it. Ihave gained the ability
through which Ican challenge myself to take new projects and research about itin the internet or
take help from my team members to effectively complete it before the deadline. In addition to
this, Ihave even advanced my skill to learn from my own mistakes along with the people around
me by staying curious about them, and apply open mindedness and analytical skills.
Creativity, originality and taking initiatives are some of the additional skills that Ihave
developed within me in order to make away for rewarding opportunities within my workplace. It
will help me in finding the unexploited markets, developing efficiencies or implementing the
new initiatives which can help my organization in gaining revenue and succeeding within the
marketplace. The individuals having creative thinking skills can enhance themselves by learning
how to determine the opportunities which are worth the risk and acting effectively on them
(Siburian, Corebima & SAPTASARI 2019) .Also, Iam able to turn my imagination into action
which will help me in career growth. The leaders in different industries face different type of
issues which are simple or complex. The people who adapt at taking the multifaceted issues are
the ones who thrive within the workplace and their career (Karagianni & Jude Montgomery
2018) .From this context, Ihave developed my ability towards complex problem solving by
paying attention to my instincts.
